Love and pizza (or the love of pizza) combine today as we celebrate both National Pizza Day and anticipate the charm and romance of Valentine’s Day (this coming Monday, February 14).
Across the country many Project Access Resource Centers are going to permeate with love and the aroma of enticing pizza as community events bring residents together for fun activities and socializing.
Pizza can be traced back to the 10th century in Naples, Italy. It officially debuted on American shores in 1905 via a New York City pizzeria called Lombardi’s (which is still in business today). Although we can trace pizza back to medieval Italy and turn-of-the-20th-century America, no one can precisely say when National Pizza Day was cemented (it is believed that the unofficial holiday took root in the early 2000s).
Saint Valentine’s Day is not a public holiday in any country although it is observed in many parts of the world. Gifts of candy, flowers, and cards (or Valentines) are symbolic of the day.
Even our four-legged residents get into the spirit of Valentine’s Day . . . or is he hoping to sneak a slice of pizza and join in the tasteful fun of National Pizza Day?
